How do I sign up for tryouts?

On Monday, August 28th at 6:30 PM (Marrs McLean Gym Dance Room, Room 316), BDC will hold an interest meeting which you MUST attend in order to sign up for auditions. Additionally, you must fill out the audition packet provided at this mandatory interest meeting.

What do auditions look like?

Auditions will take place on Thursday, August 31st, and Friday, September 1st, in the Marrs McLean Gym Dance Room (Room 316).

On August 31st, arrive between 5:00 PM and 5:30 PM to sign in and warm up on your own, followed by a group warm-up. BDC Vets are excused from the first round of auditions. The first round of auditions will include learning and performing a technique combination twice in small groups. A list of those moving on to the second round will be released via email by 7:30 PM. All second-round dancers will return at 7:45 PM to learn the jazz and hip hop combinations. BDC veterans will arrive between 7:30 PM and 7:45 PM to warm up, learn jazz and hip hop, and learn the technique combo.

On September 1st, all second-round dancers will arrive between 5:00 PM and 5:30 PM to warm up and review the combinations learned during the first round of tryouts. Dancers will perform jazz and hip hop twice in groups, and callbacks will follow after. Callbacks could be performing any of the combinations learned throughout tryouts.

The final team will be announced by Friday, September 1st at midnight. A new team meeting will be held on Thursday, September 7th at normal practice time, which is 6:15 PM in the Marrs McLean Gym Dance Room (Room 316).

What do I need to bring to auditions?

We ask that you bring a completed audition application form with a signature page, the $35 audition fee in the form of a check or exact change, the physical release form, and, if you are under 18, a parent/guardian release form. Most of these forms will be handed out at the interest meeting which is why it is imperative that you be there. You should also bring the proper footwear (jazz shoes for jazz technique and sneakers for hip hop). Clothes should be all black and form-fitting, including but not limited to: sports bra, tank top, leotard, leggings, booty shorts, bike shorts, etc. Something looser for hip hop is permissible. No excessive jewelry. Have your hair pulled back away from the face. Feel free to bring water and snacks if needed, as well as anything else you may need in the audition process. Smartwatches and cell phones are not allowed in the audition room, so bring a small bag with needed items to keep in the warm-up room. Backpacks with homework/schoolwork are encouraged to bring due to downtime between callbacks!
